Kanigiri Nagara Panchayat is 6th largest ULB in the Prakasam District of A.P. is spread over an area of 49.30 sq.kms. with a population of 44755 (2011 census). It is known for/famous for its Kanigiri hill.

It is located 208 kms. For Capital city and 85 kms. From District Headquarters. It was established as Kanigiri Nagara Panchayat in the year 2011.

The DWCRA self help groups is emulated in the urban area also by forming DWCUA self common building services help groups and the Government is facilitating various credit plans through SLBC / DLBC to those urban self help groups for various income generating activities. This program is done under Indira Kranthi Padham. The population in Slums are 7644.

Kanigiri has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate (Aw) under the Köppen climate classification, Kanigiri is located near the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The town is surrounded by the range of Eastern Ghats. It has an average elevation of 101 metres (334 feet), and enjoys a hot climate for most of the year.
