Palacole is the oldest Municipality in Andhra Pradesh, Constituted on 01.04.1919. It was upgraded as first grade Municipality in the year 1965. The town spreads over an area of 4.68 Sq. Kms. Palacole is a coastal town with a population of 61,284 as per 2011 Census.

It is located 203 Kms from Capital City AMARAVATHI and 106 Kms from District Head Quarters. It was established as 1st grade Municipality in the year 1965.There are 31 election wards in this Municipality.
Topography:
Palacole is a town in West Godavari district of the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh. It is a Municipality and the headquarters of Palacole Mandal. It is also believed that the name Palacole has been derived from the word “Ksheerapuri” which was named after Lord Sri Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy, one of the Avatharams of Lord Shiva. The tourist attraction of Palacole is Sri Ksheera Rama Lingeswara Swamy Temple with 36.6 Mts high tower called “PEDDA GOPURAM”. This temple was built in 15th century. It is one of the five Pancharamas.

Palacole Town, in general, has a tropical climate, winters last from November to February, while summers last from March to June. The Annual rainfall is 714.00 mm, most of it received during the months of June, July & August.

The Population of the Town which was 57,317 in 2001 increased to 61,284 in 2011 with an increase of 0.93% in the last decade. The Sex ratio is 1024 females per 1000 males. The Literacy rate is 100%. 51% of the male population and 49% of the female population are literate.
Economy:
Work is under progress for conversion of entire town street lighting equipment from conventional street light units to LED Units.
